Use Fat to Fight Fat!
It seems like an oxymoron, using fat to get rid of fat. But it is possible. Now this doesn’t mean you can load up on fried chicken, fries and burgers. The types of fat in those foods are the kind that can cause weight gain and health problems. The key is to choose the right fats to add to your diet.
So what are the right fats that help you lose weight? There are several different types of fat that are good for your health, they help prevent heart disease, help to lubricate joints and as an added bonus can boost your weight loss.
There are two good sources of healthy fats. One is the plant based fats that you find in nuts, avocados, and olives. These foods taste great and are very good for your body. You can use them in recipes or just snack on them. Nuts are a great snack because they fill you up and provide fiber and essential nutrients.
The other excellent source of good fat is Omega 3 fats that are found in fish such as fresh salmon, sardines, mackerel, and even trout. You want to make sure the fish you eat to obtain these essential fats is fresh, wild caught. The fish from fish farms have been shown to contain less Omega 3 fats than the fish caught in the wild.
Two of the components in Omega 3 fats that makes it such a beneficial fat are Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These compounds do amazing things to your body, including boosting your metabolism so your body burns fat more efficiently. They help to process sugars more effectively and prevent it from getting stored as fat. Not only can you find Omega 3 fats in fish, but they are also found in walnuts and flax seeds. Both of these are easy to add to recipes or just eat on their own. Mix one to two tablespoons of cold milled flaxseed into a fruit smoothie or a serving of yogurt for a delicious, slightly nutty taste.
In addition to helping boost weight loss, Omega 3 fats are excellent health supplements as well. Studies have shown that women who eat five servings of fish rich in Omega 3 fats per week reduce their chance of some types of stroke by one third. Omega 3 fats are also beneficial for reducing heart disease and are a great brain booster. In fact, Omega 3 fats have a multitude of benefits and no negative side effects.
You can also find Omega 3 fats in pill form. If you choose to go this route, make sure the supplements you get are a high grade, don’t get the cheap stuff! Purchase them from a reputable health store or pharmacy.
While we have been looking at the advantages of good fats, we cannot ignore the bad fats. Good fats such as Omega 3′s open up the fuel line to the metabolism and help it to burn efficiently. Bad fats do the exact opposite. Trans fats are unhealthy fats that are found in many processed foods such as chips, fast foods, etc. Putting these fats into your body actually put up a road block to your metabolic furnace, causing it to slow down and become less effective.
So as you can see, all fats are not bad. You just need to learn to recognize the healthy fats and add more of those to your diet as you remove the unhealthy ones. You will see an increase in weight loss and you will be giving your health a boost as well!
